Just a head's up, the latest edition of Nature (September 25) has a special feature on the upcoming U.S. election and its implications for national science policy. Apparently McCain declined to respond to the journal's request for comments, but Barack Obama has extensive replies to their questions about the most important science issues facing the world today. For comparison's sake, editors have summarized what is known of his positions on the topics addressed by Obama. The piece is a great summary of the candidate's positions, definitely a must-read. There are other articles in this week's edition that provide further analysis of the election and the candidates. If you don't have access to Nature and would like a copy of any of the articles, please comment or e-mail me and I'll send you a pdf. Also, due to space constraints not all of the questions could be included in the print edition of the journal, the additional ones (including discussion of emission targets and climate change) can be read on the website.
