Well, I wasn't right about the big news unveiled over at the Intersection today, but the good news is that it is, well, good news. (I am a little bit sheepish for posting my naive speculation earlier today, because it appears that the SciBlings all knew about it already, judging by the coordinated avanlanche of posts appearing within an hour of the official announcement).
It turns out that Chris and Sheril are campaigning for the 2008 presidential candidates to participate in a science debate. You can visit the project's website, Science Debate 2008, and register yourself as a supporter. There has already been a large positive response! The list of professional scientists endorsing the project is also impressive: names like Niles Eldredge, Ann Druyan, Jack Horner, Simon Levin, Bill Nye, and many more. You can be a part of this, go check it out!

That would be a debate I'd actually enjoy watching.
Unfortunately, most politicians are too busy focusing on religion; they seem to avoid "science" rather than risk being construed as an atheist or agnostic.
